Three Colts Tie for Fastest Time to Open OBS March Under Tack Show

For Immediate Release

A trio of colts showcased their class during the first day of the Under Tack show for the 2025 OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training sale with all three breezing an eighth of a mile in :9 4/5 to tie for the fastest time at the distance.

Two of the top three colts came out of the Top Line Sales LLC consignment including Hip 176, who was the first horse to hit the track Thursday. The chestnut colt by Charlatan, whose first crop are 2-year-olds this year, threw the hammer down for the day when he handled the headwinds without issue.

“We started with a bang. We knew that colt was fast, and it set the tone for us for the day,” said Jimbo Gladwell of Top Line Sales. “It took a free-running horse to get through the wind today, I thought. We’ve got a big dose of Charlatans on the farm, and they all train well, they’re forward. I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Out of the graded stakes placed Tapizar mare Hang a Star, the Charlatan colt hails from the female family of champion Rushing Fall.

The second colt to break the :10 barrier for Top Line was Hip 238, a chestnut son of Maclean’s Music. The colt is out of the stakes winning mare Katie’s Kiss, who is by OBS graduate Kantharos.

“Both colts prepped the same exact times, they galloped out very similar,” Gladwell said. “I don’t want to say I was expecting :9.4 but I was sure hoping for a :9.4 with the second colt. Both of them have good size, they’re balanced colts, they’ve been sound. They’ve trained great all year and got to showcase their ability in some really tough conditions today and stand out.”

Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables, Inc. consignment was responsible for the third colt who clocked in at :9 4/5 with Hip 119, a bay colt by Maxfield. The colt is out of OBS graduate and multiple stakes winning and graded stakes placed mare Eyeinthesky, by Sky Mesa.
