Gun Song scores in Pimlico’s Black-Eyed Susan Stakes

R. Lee Lewis’ Gun Song (Gun Runner – Nicole H) stalked the pace into the first turn of Pimlico’s $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2), took the lead turning for home, opened daylight in the stretch and coasted home a winner by 3-1/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old daughter of Gun Runner, purchased for $400,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2023 OBS March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. OBS grads posted a trio of stakes wins on the Black-Eyed Susan undercard.

C2 Racing Stable LLC and Stefania Farms, LLC’s Mystic Lake (Mo Town – Salty Soul) went right to the lead at the start of the $150,000 Miss Preakness Stakes (G3) and never looked back, unchallenged en route to a 4-1/2 length victory. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Mo Town, a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2022 October Yearling Sale and then purchased for $130,000 out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment at the 2023 March Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5.  Trained by Saffie A. Omar Aldabbagh and Jeff Ganje’s Shotgun Hottie (Gun Runner – Re Entry) sat just off the lead in the $100,000 Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes, swung out after the leaders on the turn, took command a furlong out and cruised home a 5-1/2 length winner. It’s the fourth stakes win for the 5-year-old graded stakes winning daughter of Gun Runner, trained by Cherie DeVaux, now 19-6-4-2 with $926,557 in earnings. Blue Heaven Farm’s (Bonnie Baskin and Adam Corndorf) Pyrenees (Into Mischief – Our Khrysty) ran his winning streak to four with a victory in the $250,000 Pimlico Special Stakes (G3), coming from behind with a late surge and scoring by three quarters of a length. It was the stakes debut for the 4-year-old son of Into Mischief, trained by Cherie DeVaux, now 8-4-1-1 with $321,716 in earnings.
