War Like Goddess heads parade of seven Saturday stakes victories

George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess defended her title in the $250,000 Glens Falls Stakes (G2) at Saratoga on Saturday, rated kindly just off the leaders in the early going, sweeping to the lead on the outside after straightening away in the stretch, and drawing off with ease to score by a length and a quarter. Posting her sixth graded stakes win for trainer Bill Mott, the 4-year-old daughter of English Channel is now 10-8-0-1 and has earned $1,217,184 to date. Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Hoity Toity relaxed off the pace in Saturday’s $153,400 Ontario Colleen Stakes (G3) on the turf course at Woodbine, went after the leaders in the stretch and was up in the final yards to win by a head. A graded stakes winner over Woodbine’s synthetic surface in her last start, the 3-year-old filly by Uncle Mo was purchased by Live Oak for $550,000 out of the Pike Racing consignment at the 2021 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. OBS graduates posted three stakes wins on Saturday at Mountaineer Park.

Daniel Alonso’s Skippylongstocking pressed the pace in the $500,000 West Virginia Derby (G3), took command in the upper stretch and eased away late to win by a length and a half. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Exaggerator, purchased for $37,000 out of the Top Line Sales consignment at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher’s Special Reserve took the lead at the start of the $75,000 Robert C. Byrd Memorial Stakes and refused to yield, drawing away late to score by 3-1/2 lengths. That’s four stakes wins for the graded stakes winning 6-year-old son of Midshipman, consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, to the 2018 OBS March Sale, where he breezed an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5 before he was sold for $140,000. Gaining Ground Racing LLC’s Price Talk stalked the leader in the $75,000 West Virginia House of Delegates Speaker’s Cup Stakes, took charge at the head of the stretch and cruised from there to a 5-1/4 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old gelding by Kitten’s Joy, trained by Brad Cox, now 14-5-2-3 with earnings of $270,884. He was sold for $70,000 by Stuart Morris, Agent, at the 2018 OBS October Yearling Sale.

CSLR Ranch Partners’ Awesome Strong is two for two and a stakes winner after bouncing right to the front in the $100,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes at Gulfstream and never looking back en route to a 4-3/4 length victory. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Awesome Slew, trained by Jorge Delgado, has earned $98,000 to date after being purchased for $30,000 out of the Sue Vacek consignment at the 2021 OBS October Selected Yearling Sale

MAT Investments, LLC’s City Park swept around horses to the lead in the $67,000 Louisiana Cup Turf Classic Stakes at Louisiana Downs, then drew away in deep stretch to score by a length and three quarters. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Temple City, who went through the ring, consigned by Pelican State Thoroughbreds, at the 2018 OBS Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Eduardo Ramirez, he has compiled a 31-6-2-8 career record and earned $210,484.
