Three OBS graduates scored stakes wins on Saturday at Fair Grounds.
Crawford Farms Racing’s Archidust saved ground early in the $75,000 Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes, swung out for the drive, caught the leaders in deep stretch and scored by a length. It’s the sixth stakes win for the 4-year- old graded stakes placed colt by Verrazano, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased by Juan Pacanins, Agent, for $300,000 out of the Whitman Sales consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. The 2019 OBS Sprint Stakes winner, now trained by Steve Asmussen, has compiled a 17-8-1-4 career record and earned $417,000 to date. watch his under tack video
Team Hanley and Parkland Thoroughbreds’ Joy’s Rocket picked up her second straight stakes victory in the $75,000 Letellier Memorial Stakes, pressing the pace from the start, taking command turning for home, and drawing away late to win by a length and a half. That’s three stakes wins for the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Anthony’s Cross, also trained by Steve Asmussen, now 6-4-1-0 with $230,944 in earnings. The trainer purchased her for $47,000 out of the GOP Racing Stable Corp. consignment at the 2020 OBS March Sale after she turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch her under tack video
Dare to Dream Stable LLC’s (Michael Faber) Quick Tempo went right to the front at the start of the $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes and the 2-year-old colt by Tapizar never looked back en route to a 1-3/4 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Gagetown (April ’20). Consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Kings Equine, Agent, he was sold for $75,000 after working an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. Ron Stolich’s Dipping In tried stakes company for the first time in Saturday’s $70,000 Useeit Stakes at Remington Park. The 3-year-old daughter of Lea relaxed off the pace in the early going, rallied to go after the leaders after turning for home, caught them a furlong from home and was best by a length at the wire. It’s her second straight win for trainer H. Ray Ashford, Jr., leaving her with a 16-3-1-3 record and earnings of $129,308. A two-time OBS graduate, she went through the ring at the 2019 Spring Sale before she was purchased by Dennis O’Neill for $80,000 out of the Old South Farm LLC consignment at the 2019 June Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat. watch her under tack video
