OBS grads enjoying summer at Saratoga and Del Mar

OBS Two Year Old Sale graduates are making their presence felt at the prestigious summer race meets; Del Mar on the west coast and Saratoga in the east.

At Del Mar, Exline-Border Racing LLC, Dan Hudock and Susanna Wilson’s Storm the Court made his debut for trainer Peter Eurton in the first race last Saturday, and the colt by Court Vision got the best of heavily favored Garth in the stretch, taking the $61,000 5-1/2 furlong Maiden Special Weight dash by a length and a half. Consigned to the April Sale by Woodside Ranch, Agent, he worked an Under Tack quarter in :20 2/5 before he was purchased for $60,000 by Marette Farrell, Agent for Exline-Border Racing LLC. watch his under tack video

After gaining racing experience in Kentucky, Rockingham Ranch’s Billy Bats found the lawn at Del Mar to his liking two races later, stalking the early lead in a $61,000 Maiden Special Weight test, taking charge in the stretch and easing away late to win by a length and three quarters. The son of City Zip, trained by Peter Miller, was purchased for $200,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the March Sale after breezing a quarter in :20 4/5. watch his under tack video

On Sunday, Hronis Racing LLC, West Point Thoroughbreds and William Sandbrook’s Inspiressa was bet down to even money for her debut in a $61,000 Maiden Special dash and lived up to her billing. The Florida-bred daughter of The Big Beast, trained by John Sadler, went right to the front and stayed there to the finish, winning under a hand ride by a length and a quarter. At the March Sale, she sped a quarter in :20 4/5 at the Under Tack Show before she was sold for $850,000 by her breeder Ocala Stud. watch her under tack video

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, Woodstock and the Miracle New York Mets, whose center fielder Cleon Jones hit .340 leading his team to the 1969 World Series title. Racing fans saw his equine namesake in action in the first race on July 28th at Saratoga, when Gold Square LLC’s Cleon Jones came flying from off the pace to draw away to a 3-1/2 length score in a six furlong, $78,000 Maiden Special Weight dash. It was the second start for the colt by Tale of the Cat, trained by Jeremiah Englehart, purchased for $325,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the March Sale after he turned in an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat. watch his under tack video

Gold Square and partner Double O Racing Stable LLC scored again at Saratoga with an Eddie Woods April Sale graduate on August 4th when Daphne Moon charged from behind, took command a furlong from home and took a $90,000 Maiden Special by three and a quarter lengths in her debut for trainer Englehart. The daughter of Cairo Prince also breezed a :21 flat quarter before she was purchased for $525,000. watch her under tack video

Zayat Stable, LLC’s Gozilla, hammered to 3-5 in his debut for trainer Steve Asmussen in a $90,000 Maiden Special Weight test last Saturday, left the gate running and never looked back, quickly opening up daylight and cruising to an effortless 4-1/2 length victory, running six furlongs in 1:09 3/5. The colt by Flatter, consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, went through the ring at the April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video
