Spring Sale’s Under Tack Show begins Monday, April 15

The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 April Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Monday, April 15th, and continues through Saturday, April 20th.  All six sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The catalog can be viewed via the OBS website at http://obssales.com.

Hip No.’s 1-203 will breeze on Monday, Hip No.’s 204-406 go to the track Tuesday; Hip No’s 407-608 breeze Wednesday, Hip No’s 609-813 work Thursday, Hip No.’s 814 -1017 breeze Friday and Hip No’s 1018 -1221 will go to the track Saturday.

The Sale is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd through Friday, April 26th with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hip No’s 1-304 go on the block Tuesday, Hip No’s 305-608 will be offered Wednesday, Hip No.’s 609-912 sell Thursday and Hip No’s. 913-1221 will sell on Friday.

The Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and via the Blood-Horse, Daily Racing Form and TDN websites. The workouts will be recorded and can be viewed on the website, in their entirety or by individual hip number. They will also be available in the Video Room as well as kiosks throughout the sales pavilion. Visitors to Ocala will find the videos available for in-room viewing at The Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton. Under Tack Show results are posted on the OBS website.

Producing three classic winners, ten Eclipse Award winners and 35 equine millionaires, the OBS April Sale has grown into a major international marketplace, the centerpiece of three OBS juvenile venues.

The April Sale’s latest Eclipse Award winner is Conrad Farms’ Shamrock Rose, voted 2018’s Champion Female Sprinter after her victory in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). The now 4-year-old daughter of First Dude was purchased for $120,000 out of the Best A Luck Farm LLC consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Mark Casse, she’s now 13-5-2-2 and is closing in on a million with earnings of $968,962. She’s the second OBS April graduate to parlay a Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) victory into an Eclipse Award. Musical Romance was the first in 2011. watch her under tack video

Gracing the cover of Book 2 of the catalog is Bloom Racing Stable, Madaket Stables LLC and Allen Racing LLC’s Midnight Bisou, whose next start is in Sunday’s Apple Blossom (G1) at Oaklawn Park. Her victory in the recent Azeri Stakes (G2) at Oaklawn was the seventh graded stakes win in a career that has seen her capture graded races at Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Parx, Santa Anita and Sam Houston. The 4-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds to the 2017 Sale, where she breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased by Jeffrey Bloom for $80,000. The latest April international millionaire is Green Fields Co. Ltd.’s Mr Melody, winner of the Takamatsunomiya Kinen (G1) at Chukyo Racecourse in March. The 4-year-old son of Scat Daddy was consigned to the 2017 OBS April Sale by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, and purchased for $400,000 by Narvick International after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Robert LaPenta and Head of Plains Partners LLC’s Coal Front attained international millionaire status in February with a victory in the Godolphin Mile (G2) on Dubai World Cup Day at Meydan. It was the third straight graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Stay Thirsty, purchased for $575,000 by Steven W. Young on behalf of Mr. LaPenta at the 2016 April Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. Now 9-7-0-0 for trainer Todd Pletcher, he has earned $1,679,138. watch his under tack video

Allied Racing Stable, LLC’s By My Standards stamped his ticket to the Kentucky Derby (G1) with a victory in Fair Grounds’ Louisiana Derby (G2). The 3-year-old colt by OBS graduate Goldencents sports a 5-2-2-1 record with earnings of $653,710 for trainer Bret Calhoun. Consigned to the 2018 April Sale by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, he was purchased by Josh Stevens Bloodstock, Agent, for $150,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. watch his under tack video

The newest OBS grade one winning April graduate is Commonwealth Stable’s Out for a Spin, headed for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) after defeating champion Jaywalk in Keeneland’s Ashland Stakes (G1) last Saturday. The 3-year-old daughter of Hard Spun was consigned by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, to the 2018 April Sale, where she went through the ring after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 3/5. Trained by Dallas Stewart, she’s now 5-3-0-1 and has earned $354,903. watch her under tack video

William & Corrine Heiligbrodt’s Mitole became the latest graded stakes winning April graduate, taking the lead at the start of today’s $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn, fighting off an early challenge by two time defending champion Whitmore and pulling away late to win by daylight. It’s the first graded stakes victory and fifth straight win for the 4-year-old colt by Eskendereya, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 9-6-2-1 with $701,510 in earnings. Consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC to the 2017 OBS April Sale, he was sold for $140,000 after turning in an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

In all, since the beginning of 2018, 185 April graduates have won or placed 380 times in stakes races, 123 of them graded events. They have accounted 113 stakes victories.

The OBS website’s searchable and sortable master index provides links to under tack videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using the new features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.
