Axelrod takes the Smarty Jones at Parx Racing

Slam Dunk Racing’s Axelrod sat wide just off the pace in the early going of Parx Racing’s $300,000 Smarty Jones Stakes (G3) on Saturday, surged to take command a furlong from home and drew off to win by four lengths. It’s the second straight graded stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Warrior’s Reward, purchased for $25,000 by Slam Dunk out of the Bobby Jones Equine consignment at the 2016 OBS Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Mike McCarthy, he’s now 9-4-1-1 and has earned $540,925.

Batchelor Family Trust’s True Royalty came from just off the pace to take charge of Saturday’s $101,725 Torrey Pines Stakes (G3) at Del Mar turning for home and opened up from there, drawing off to win by 3-1/2 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Yes It’s True, trained by John Sadler, now 7-3-1-2 with $154,510 in earnings. She turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before she was purchased for $180,000 out of the Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC consignment at the 2017 OBS April Sale.  watch her under tack video

Red Baron’s Barn LLC and Rancho Temescal LLC’s Tatters to Riches tracked the pace of fellow OBS graduate Afleet Ascent (April ’17, August ’16) in the early going of Saturday’s $100,000 Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar, moved to challenge on the turn for home, took the lead in the lane and eased away to beat her to the wire by a length. It’s the second straight win and first stakes score for the lightly raced 3-year-old daughter of Union Rags, now 4-3-0-0 for trainer Jeff Mullins with earnings of $133,545. Consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, to the 2017 OBS April Sale, she breezed an eighth in:10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show before selling for $1,000,000. watch her under tack video

Marco Thoroughbred Corp’s Mo Cash led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Saturday’s $100,000 Benny The Bull Stakes at Gulfstream, rallying to take over at the quarter pole and drawing away to a 4-1/2 length victory over Mr. Jordan (April ’14, August ’13), with Hy Riverside (April ’14) checking in third. That’s two straight wins and four stakes victories for the graded stakes placed 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Adios Charlie, sold by Ocala Stud, Agent, for $11,000 at the 2016 OBS June Sale after breezing a quarter in :22 flat at the Under Tack Show. The first winner saddled by trainer Ricko Maragh, Mo Cash is now 14-6-3-1 and has earned $370,224 to date. watch his under tack video

Hronis Racing LLC’s Shenandoah Queen successfully defended her title in Friday’s $77,700 Tranquility Lake Stakes at Del Mar, pressing the pace, taking over turning for home, and drawing away down the stretch to an 8-1/2 length victory. The 6-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes, now 20-6-2-2 for trainer John Sadler, she has earned $212,610. A two-time OBS graduate, she was sold by Casse Sales LLC (Justin Casse), Agent at the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale before she went through the ring at the 2014 March Sale, consigned by Northwest Stud, Agent for Inversiones Fl.
