Jay’s Way wins Gulfstream’s Sunshine Millions Classic

Midwest Thoroughbreds’ Jay’s Way set the pace from the start of the $200,000 Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, was headed by fellow OBS graduate Mr. Jordan (April ’14, August ’13) in the stretch, but battled back to regain the lead and won by half a length. It’s the first stakes victory for the 5-year-old Florida-bred horse by Gone Astray, trained by Armando De la Cerda, now 20-6-5-2 with $345,456 in earnings. A three time OBS graduate, he was sold by Sue Vacek, Agent, at the 2014 Winter Mixed Sale, went through the ring at the 2014 Selected Yearling Sale, and then was purchased by for $50,000 out of the Shadybrook Farm (Michael Yates) consignment at the 2015 March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.  watch his under tack video  Selected Sale conformation photo

Anne D. Scott’s Galleon Mast posted his fourth stakes victory in his last five starts, circling from next to last to get up in the final yards of the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Turf Stakes and win by a head. The 5-year-old Florida-bred Mizzen Mast gelding is now 22-8-6-4 for trainer David Fawkes, and has earned $404,644 to date. Consigned to the 2015 OBS April Sale by Eddie Woods, Agent, he went through the ring after an Under Tack quarter in :22 flat.  watch his under tack video

Kevin Attard and Soli Mehta’s Starship Jubilee sat just off the pace in the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Stakes, moved to the leaders in the stretch and took charge late to win by a length. It’s the third stakes win for the 5-year-old graded stakes winning Florida-bred daughter of Indy Wind, trained by Kevin Attard, now 18-9-1-2 with $385,011 in earnings. The two time OBS graduate was sold by The Acorn at the 2014 August Yearling Sale then consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, to the 2015 April Sale where she breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video

Rockingham Ranch & Gelfenstein Farm’s X Y Jet warmed up for a possible trip to the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) in the $100,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint Stakes, leading almost every step of the way en route to a 5-1/2 length victory. Fellow OBS graduates Mo Cash (June ’16) and Sweetontheladies (April ’16) rallied to be second and third. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 6-year-old Florida-bred son of Kantharos, a two time OBS graduate, first consigned by Two Sharp Hats to the 2013 Winter Mixed Sale before they sold him for $56,000 at the 2013 August Selected Yearling Sale. Michael Dubb’s World of Trouble went right to the front at the start of Tampa Bay Downs’ $125,000 Pasco Stakes and was much the best, drawing away with ease in the stretch and winning by 13-3/4 lengths. The time of 1:21.52 was .12 off OBS graduate Catalina Red’s seven furlong track record. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Kantharos, consigned by Darsan Inc., Agent to the 2016 OBS August Yearling Sale. Trained by Jason Servis, he’s now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $149,400.

Carolyn Wilson’s Wellabled gave nothing else a chance in Saturday’s $50,000 Forego Stakes at Turfway Park, going to the lead at the start and never looking back on his way to a seven length score. It’s the third stakes victory for the 4-year-old graded stakes winning colt by Shackleford, trained by Larry Rivelli, now 9-5-1-0 with $214,856 in earnings. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2016 OBS April Sale, he sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 2/5 prior to being sold for $340,000. watch his under tack video
