Wright’s Ultimate Eagle made his stakes debut in Santa Anita’s 150, 000 Oak Tree Derby (G2) on Saturday, and although ignored at 34-1, went to the early lead and stayed there all the way en route to a half length victory. It’s the third straight win for the 3-year-old colt by Mizzen Mast, sold for $70,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2010 OBS April Sale. He’s now 6-3-0-2 and has earned $179,800.
George Michaels’ Luke of York is two for two and a stakes winner after scoring by a nose in the $125,000 Keeneland 75 th Anniversary Stakes. Sold for $23,000 by Derby Daze Farm, Agent, at the 2011 OBS June Sale, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Put It Back has earned $96,336 to date.
Ike and Dawn Thrash’s Wild About Marie picked up her second stakes victory of the year on Saturday, taking the $100,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes at Keeneland by two lengths. That’s three wins in eight starts this year for the 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Wildcat Heir, now 16-6-5-0 with earnings of $261,985. She was sold for $40,000 by Tonya Jurgens, Agent, at the 2008 OBS August Sale.
Caroni Stable’s Oligarch won Calder’s $73,600 Tropical Park Derby by a head on Saturday, scoring the first stakes victory of his career. It’s the second win in four starts this year for the 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Congrats, sold first by Moreau Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2009 OBS August Sale before being purchased for $140,000 out of the Off The Hook consignment at the 2010 March Sale. He’s now 8-3-1-1 with earnings of $93,204.
Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman’s Secret Circle stepped into stakes company off a winning debut and cruised to a 5-1/4 length victory in Friday’s $71,340 Jack Goodman Stakes at Santa Anita. Two for two with earnings of $78,990, the 2-year-old Eddington colt was sold for $165,000 by Flying Fish, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale.
Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc.’s Sneak A Cold Treat, third in last year’s $50,000 Best of Ohio Sprint Stakes at Thistledown, came back this year and won the 2011 renewal by 2-1/4 lengths. After four wins in five starts this year, the 6-year-old gelding by Snuck In is 40-14-6-3 and has earned $292,096. He was consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, to the 2007 OBS June Sale.
