Bear Stables and Riversedge Racing Stables’ Academic took on the boys in the $200, 000 Canadian Derby (G3) on Saturday at Northlands Park, went to the lead turning for home and galloped off to an eight length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old filly by Henny Hughes, who breezed an Under Tack quarter in :22 flat before she was purchased for $54,000 out of the Flying Fish consignment at the 2014 OBS April Sale. James L. Driver and H. Ywachetta’s Rivers Run Deep was much the best in Saturday’s $75,000 Honey Jay Stakes at Thistledown, taking over half a mile from the finish and running off to a 6-3/4 length victory over five overmatched opponents. His repeat win in the Honey Jay was his seventh stakes win, leaving him with a 21-9-7-2 record and $496,100 in earnings. Trained by Chris Hartman, the 4-year-old colt by Ready’s Image worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat before he was purchased for $77,000 by Garry Simms, Agent for James Driver, out of the Rod McVey consignment at the 2013 OBS June Sale. watch his under tack video
Dale Arnold’s Bourbon Sense picked up his first stakes win in Sunday’s $100,000 Arapahoe Park Classic Stakes, taking the lead at the start and staying there to the wire, winning by a length. The 4-year-old gelding by Street Sense worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was sold by Derby Dreams, Agent, for $100,000 to McMahon and Hill Bloodstock, Agent, at the 2013 OBS March Sale.
