Success Racing’s Sky Preacher picked up his first stakes win in the $75,000 Golden Poppy Stakes at Golden Gate Sunday, going to the lead at the start, staying there all the way and holding on to win by a nose. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the 3-year-old son of Sky Mesa was purchased for $80,000 by Russell Smith out of the Eisaman Equine consignment at the 2014 March Sale after working an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Ike and Dawn Thrash & Sam and Janet Alley’s Katie’s Eyes made it four wins in a row Saturday, charging from well off the pace to take the lead in deep stretch and win Churchill’s $66,029 Unbridled Sidney Stakes by a length and a quarter. It’s the second straight stakes win for the graded stakes placed 4-year-old filly by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), trained by Michael Stidham, leaving her 10-5-0-3 with $207,941 in earnings. She was sold for $75,000 by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, at the 2012 OBS August Sale.
