Gaming, McKinzie Street’s one-two finish in G1 Del Mar Futurity leads parade of weekend stakes winners

A pair of OBS March graduates scored graded stakes wins on Sunday as the Del Mar meeting came to a close.

Michael E. Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Gaming (Game Winner – So Stylish) is two for two and a graded stakes winner after taking Sunday’s $301,000 Del Mar Futurity (G1). Moving inside to reach contention, he came out and took charge turning for home and cruised to a two length victory over fellow OBS graduate McKinzie Street (McKinzie – Karpathos). At the 2024 OBS March Sale, the 2-year-old colt by Game Winner sped an Under Tack quarter in :20 2/5 and was purchased for $250,000 out of the Pick View consignment. Irving Ventures LLC, Michelle Arthur, William Meathe, and Jeanne Tumanjan’s Artislas (Catalina Cruiser – Moms Pride (FR) ) led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $101,000 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3). Off the pace early, he rallied to the leaders on the inside, took command a furlong out and scored by half a length over Sabertooth (Grazen – Hard to Resist), with Scipio (Caravaggio – Soul Spirit) settling for third. Now two for two for trainer Jeff Mullins, the 2-year-old son of Catalina Cruiser has earned $105,000. Clark O. Brewster, L. William Heiligbrodt and Corinne Heiligbrodt’s Cogburn (Not This Time – In A Jif) is on his way to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) after a frontrunning victory $2-million Turf Sprint Stakes (G2) on Saturday at Kentucky Downs. Going straight to the front at the break, he had the lead turning for home and drew off smartly in the stretch to score by 3-1/4 lengths. Win And You’re In invitations to the 2024 Breeders’ Cup were on the line in two  OBS sponsored graded stakes races on Sunday at Seoul Racecourse in South Korea.

The $1.9-million Korea Cup (G3) offered a trip to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and was won by Crown Pride (JPN).

Graded stakes winning millionaire OBS March graduate Jasper Krone had the lead in the stretch of the $1-million OBS Korea Sprint (G3) but settled for second behind grade one stakes winner Remake (JPN),who earned a trip to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1).

KatieRich Stables LLC’s May Day Ready (Tapit – Nemoralia) is two for two and a stakes winner after coming from off the pace and beating fellow OBS graduate Bellavinino (Get Stormy – Lancelots Lady) by a length and a quarter in the $997,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes. Consigned to the 2024 OBS Spring Sale by de Meric Sales, Agent, she was sold for $325,000 after breezing an eighthin:10 flat at the Under Tack Show.  She’s trained by Joseph R. Averill Racing LLC’s R Morning Brew (Curlin’s Honor – Foolhearted Woman) is two for two and a stakes winner after a scoring a 5-1/2 length wire to wire victory in Saturday’s $100,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Desert Vixen Stakes. Fellow OBS graduate Win N Your In (Win Win Win – Hello Rosie) checked in third. After breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, the 2-year-old daughter of Curlin’s Honor was purchased for $30,000 out of the Rivera Training and Sales consignment at the 2024 OBS Spring Sale. Bregman Family Racing LLC and Swinbank Stables, LLC’s Governor Sam (Improbable – I’m Betty G) led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of the $125,000 Rosie’s Stakes on Saturday at Colonial Downs. The 2-year-old colt by Improbable led from start to finish and beat fellow OBS graduate Out On Bail (Tiz the Law – Judge Lee) by two lengths with Ghostly Rose (Battallion Runner – Let Right Be Done) finishing third. Trained by George Weaver, he’s now 4-3-0-0 and earned $192,850, sold for $275,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. Peter Redekop B. C., Ltd.’s Apprehend (Arrogate – Hero’s Amor) took the lead at the start of the S. W. Randall Plate Handicap on Saturday at Hastings Park and never looked back en route to a 3-1/2 length victory. It’s the first stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Arrogate, trained by Barbara Heads, now 13-6-3-0 with $243,853 in earnings. Julian J. De Mora Jr.’s California Frolic, rated early in Monmouth’s $102,000 Presious Passion Stakes on Sunday, rallied to take command a sixteenth from home and scored by a length. It’s the third stakes victory for the 5-year-old son of California Chrome, purchased for $32,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 4/5.
