Politicallycorrect heads parade of weekend stakes winners

OBS graduates scored four stakes wins at Churchill Downs over the weekend.

Walmac Farm, Five Fillies Stable LLC and Ryan C. Ritt’s Politicallycorrect (Violence – Heron Watch) is two for two and a stakes winner after taking Sunday’s $225,000 Bashford Manor Stakes by five lengths. Far back early, the 2-year-colt by Violence swept wide around the turn to reach contention, took command a furlong out and drew clear with ease. Fellow OBS graduate Ivan the Great (Kantharos – I’m Mom’s Favorite) checked in third. Christopher Davis trains the winner, who has earned $199,320. Consigned to the 2024 OBS March Sale by New Hope AB LLC, Agent, he was purchased by Five Fillies Stable for $195,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5.  walk/breeze video

Gary Barber, Rocky Top Stable and LEMB Stables’ Dancing N Dixie (Neolithic – Foolhearted Woman) had one horse beaten at the top of the stretch of Saturday’s $250,000 Tepin Stakes, but swung out for the drive, put it in gear a furlong from home and ran past the field to get up and score by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old graded stakes placed Florida-bred filly by Neolithic, purchased for $35,000 out of Blue River Bloodstock consignment at the 2023 OBS June Sale after speeding an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5. She’s now 10-3-0-3 for trainer Mark Casse, and has earned $320,550.      watch her under tack video

Wathnan Racing’s Cagliostro (Upstart – A Rosefor Isabelle) tracked the leaders in Sunday’s $300,000 Hanshin Stakes, took the lead turning for home and held on gamely to score by a length, with fellow OBS graduate Raise Cain (Violence – Lemon Belle) settling for third. It’s the first stakes victory for the graded stakes placed 4-year-old Florida-bred son of Upstart, trained by Cherie DeVaux, now 11-3-4-1 with $436,668 in earnings. Mark Davis’ Raging Torrent (Maximus Mischief – Violent Wave) went straight to the front in Sunday’s $173,700 Maxfield Overnight Stakes and never looked back, cruising to victory by 2-1/4 lengths. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Maximus Mischief, trained by Doug O’Neill, now 9-3-1-2 with $317,400 in earnings. Consigned by Randy Bradshaw (Agent) to the 2023 OBS Spring Sale, he was sold for $75,000 after turning in Under Tack eighth in :10 flat.  watch his under tack video

Edward C. Allred and Jack Liebau’s Wynstock (Solomini – Timberlea) set pressed the pace in the early going of Saturday’s $100,000 Los Alamitos Derby, dropped back on the backstretch, came running in the stretch was up to win by a nose in the last jump. That’s two stakes wins for the 3-year-old colt by Solomini, who captured the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) at two. Consigned to the 2023 OBS Spring Sale by Caliente Thoroughbreds, he was purchased for $700,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent, after speeding an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5. Rising Sun Racing Stables, Inc.’s Play Harder (Outwork – Miss Manatee) has compiled a 6-5-0-1 record and earned $171,895. The 3-year-old son of Outwork, trained by Claudio A. Gonzalez, earned his first stakes win on Saturday in Laurel’s $75,000 Star de Naskra Stakes via disqualification, just missing by a nose at the wire. At the 2023 OBS June Sale, he was purchased for $25,000 out of the Randy Miles consignment after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.   watch his under tack video
