OBS grads post three graded stakes wins

OBS graduates posted a pair of graded stakes wins at Churchill Downs and one at Woodbine on Saturday

Clark O. Brewster, L. William Heiligbrodt and Corinne Heiligbrodt’s Cogburn (Not This Time – In A Jif) is on the verge of joining the millionaires’ club after taking command of the $600,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes (G2) on the turn, easing away down the stretch and winning by 2-1/4 lengths. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the four-time stakes winning 4-year-old son of Not This Time has compiled a 13-7-2-0 career record and earned $962,730 to date. Amerman Racing LLC’s Trikari (Oscar Performance – Dynamic Holiday), ignored at 47-1 in the American Turf Stakes (G2), was bumped at the start, came off the rail to challenge the leaders after turning for home and drew off late to score by a length and a half. It’s the second stakes victory for the lightly raced 3-year-old colt by Oscar Performance, purchased for $27,500 by Amerman Racing out of the Ordonez Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2022 October Yearling Sale. Glassman Racing’s Play the Music (Mo Town – Hey Little Sister) rated off the pace under Patrick Husbands in Woodbine’s $140,025 Whimsical Stakes (G3), rallied wide on the turn to reach contention, took command a furlong out and drew off to win by 4-1/4 lengths. It’s the first graded stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Mo Town, now 12-5-1-3 for trainer Mark Casse with $341,598 in earnings. OBS grads scored in two stakes races on Saturday at Gulfstream Park

Freedom Principle (Lauren King)

Echo Papa Racing Corp.’s Freedom Principle (Flameaway – Diamondette), well off the pace in the $100,000 English Channel Stakes, circled horses on the turn, kept coming down the stretch, and was up in the final yards to score by a neck. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Flameaway, trained by Jose Garoffalo, now 7-3-2-0 with $135,508 in earnings. De Regreso (Ryan Thompson)

Cairoli Racing Stable and Magic Stables, Inc.’s De Regreso (Audible – Texas Gem) picked up her first stakes victory in the $100,000 Honey Ryder Stakes. Rallying from off the pace, she took charge a furlong from home and scored by 2-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Stormcast (Mitole – Scolara). Antonio Sano trains the 3-year-old daughter of Audible, who went through the ring at the 2023 OBS March Sale after breezing an eighth in 10 1/5.
