The 3-year-old colt by Bee Jersey took charge at the start, surrendered the lead at the head of the stretch, regained it a furlong out and was best by a nose at the wire, with fellow OBS graduate Patriot Spirit (Constitution – Mistical Plan) checking in third. West Point Thoroughbreds’ Jaxon Traveler (Munnings – Listen Boy) stalked the leaders in the $250,000 Whitmore Stakes (G3), battled to the front inside the furlong pole and gamely scored by a nose. That’s seven stakes wins for the 6-year-old son of Munnings, trained by Steve Asmussen, now 29-9-7-5 with $891,849 earnings. Morse’s Asternia (Astern (AUS) – La Chepis) wasup close early in the $200,000 Purple Martin Stakes, went after the leaders on the turn, took over in the stretch and drew off to win by 5-1/4 lengths.
