October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 October Yearling Sale begins Tuesday, October 10th. There are 713 yearlings cataloged for the two-day sale, with both sessions beginning at 10:0a.m.

The Sale is set for Tuesday, October 10th and Wednesday, October 11th. Hip No.’s 1 – 338 plus supplements 339 – 359 will be offered on Tuesday and Hip No’s 401 – 739 plus supplements 740 – 755 will be sold on Wednesday.

A total of 37 yearlings were supplemented to the sale after the catalog was printed. Their catalog pages are available via the OBS website at obssales.com and in printed form at the sales grounds.

The OBS October Yearling Sale has long been a source for top class racehorses, its alumni perennially performing at the sport’s highest levels. Over the past year October grads have won major races across the country and overseas. From Crimson Advocate capturing the Queen Mary (G2) at Ascot through Elm Drive’s Monrovia Stakes victory at (G3) at Santa Anita, October grads also won major graded stakes at Del Mar (Havnameltdown, Speed Boat Beach, Speaking Scout), Keeneland (Delight, Key of Life) and Churchill Downs (Foreign Relations).

The latest stakes winning OBS October graduate is Laurie Plesa and Glassman Racing LLC’s Time Passage (Tunwoo – Savingtime) who captured Gulfstream’s Miss Gracie Stakes on Saturday. The 3-year-old Florida-bred filly was consigned to the 2021 October Yearling Sale by Stuart Morris, Agent, and sold for $85,000. There are several other notable updates since the catalog was printed.

  • Hip No. 76, a colt by Higher Power, is a half brother to OBS graduate Smart Striker, third in the recent Bear’s Den Stakes at Gulfstream.
  • Hip No. 164, a filly by Palace Malice, is a half sister to newly minted stakes winner Brocknardini, winner of Laurel’s Selima Stakes on September 30th.
  • Hip No. 178 , a colt by Thousand Words, is a half brother to newly stakes placed Cel’s Star, third in the recent Iowa Sorority Stakes at Prairie Meadows. walking video
  • Hip No. 279, a colt by Gormley, is a half brother to Flashy Gem,who added a third in the Dueling Grounds Oaks to her resume on September 3rd. walking video
  • Hip No. 353, a filly by Bolt d’Oro, is a half sister to newly stakes placed Yatta, third in the Selima at Laurel on September 30th.  walking video
  • Hip No. 436, a colt by Solomini, is a half brother to newly stakes placed OBS graduate My Shea D Lady, third in the Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga. walking video
  • Hip No. 490, a colt by Curlin’s Honor, is a half brother to newly stakes placed OBS graduate Dickens, second in the FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes on September 9th.
  • Hip No. 507, a colt by champion OBS graduate Mitole, is a half brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Midnight Stroll, who added a second place finish in the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2) to her resume on September 18th.
  • Hip No. 687, a filly by Vekoma, is a half sister to newly minted stakes winner Caldwell Luvs Gold, winner of the Seeking the Ante Stakes at Saratoga on August 27th.

OBS will again offer Online Bidding during the October Sale. Walking videos of many of the yearlings may be viewed through the Sortable Master Index on the OBS website. The website’s improved searchable and sortable master index provides links to videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation.

The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Pastthewire websites. The website now includes a Spanish language section which can be accessed from the home page. The section’s index links to information for consignors and buyers, as well as press releases and important general information.
