Muth, War Like Goddess score Grade One stakes wins

George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess (English Channel – Misty North) beat the boys again, defending her title in the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct. She moved to contention turning for home, blew past the frontrunner a furlong out and drew off and scored by 4-1/2 lengths. That’s nine graded stakes victories for the 6-year-old daughter of English Channel, consigned to the 2019 OBS June Sale by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables, and sold for $30,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Zedan Racing Stables’ Muth (Good Magic – Hoppa) punched his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) with a resounding victory in the $301,500 American Pharoah Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. Relaxing nicely just off the pace on the inside, the 2-year-old colt by Good Magic swept to the lead after turning for home and scored by 3-3/4 lengths over OBS June Sale graduate Wine Me Up (Vino Rosso – Deanaallen’skitten). Consigned to the 2023 OBS March Sale by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, he was purchased by Donato Lanni, Agent, for a sale record equaling $2-million after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :9 3/5. Sonata Stable’s Arzak (Not This Time – Delightful Melody), unhurried early in Keeneland’s $350,000 Woodford Stakes (G2), swung out for the drive, took charge in deep stretch and was best by two lengths. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Not This Time, purchased for $575,000 out of the Julie Davies consignment at the 2020 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Mike Trombetta, he’s a four-time stakes winner, compiled a 23-7-3-1 career record and earned $609,803. watch his under tack video

Hall Racing LLC, Pearl Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds’ Slider (Jimmy Creed – Days Like This) made his stakes debut in Santa Anita’s $102,500 Speakeasy Stakes. The 2-year-old colt by Jimmy Creed took the lead at the start, surrendered it swinging wide on the turn, then came again to take over and score by a length and a quarter. Fellow OBS Spring Sale graduate April Vintage (Vino Rosso – Beautissimo) rallied for third. Trained by John Sadler, he’s now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $125,600. Laurie Plesa and Glassman Racing LLC’s Time Passage (Tunwoo – Savingtime) took the lead at the start of Gulfstream’s $75,000 Miss Gracie Stakes and was never headed, galloping home a 2-3/4 length winner over OBS Spring Sale graduate To Thyself B True (Girvin – True Martha). It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Tunwoo, consigned to the 2021 October Yearling Sale by Stuart Morris, Agent, and sold for $85,000.
