October Sale Catalog now online

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2023 October Yearling Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The two-day sale is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, October 10th and 11th. Supplemental entries will be accepted until September 26th.

There are 676 horses cataloged in two Open sessions. The sale begins on Tuesday, October 10th with Hip No.’s 1– 338 plus supplements offered for sale. Hip No.’s 401 plus supplements will be sold on Wednesday, October 11th. Both sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Supplements will be sold at the conclusion of each session cataloged in order of the starting letter of the dam’s name. Names beginning with T through Is will be added to the end of the first session starting with Hip No. 339; names beginning with It through S will be added to the conclusion of second session beginning with Hip No. 740.  

The sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Pastthewire websites.

The catalog cover reflects the recent success of OBS October graduates.  

The cover girl is R.A.Hill/Swinbank/Black Ridge/Black Type’s Crimson Advocate, winner of Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes (G2) this spring. The 2-year-old filly by Nyquist earned the trip to Ascot by winning Gulfstream’s Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies Stakes in May. Purchased for $100,000 out of the Beth Bayer consignment at the 2022 October Yearling Sale, she’s now 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $138,047 for trainer George Weaver. Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’s Speaking Scout, winner of the Hollywood Derby (G1) at three, has compiled a 20-4-4-2 career record and earned $660,643, competing in fifteen black type events from two to five. Trained by Graham Motion, the 5-year-old son of Mr Speaker was purchased for $3,000 out of the Bobby Jones Equine consignment at the 2020 October Sale.  October Sale walking video

Little Red Feather Racing’s Elm Drive has been a steady high-class performer since she was purchased out of the Summerfield consignment at the 2020 October Yearling Sale, then resold at OBS March by Paul Sharp. The now 4-year-old daughter of Mohaymen has won or placed five times in graded stakes, taking the Sorrento Stakes (G2) at two and Monrovia Stakes (G3) at four. Trained by Phil D’Amato, she’s now 12-5-0-3 and has earned $480,140.

Flurry Racing Stables LLC and Hoffman Family Racing, LLC’s graded stakes winner Key of Life captured Keeneland’s Beaumont Stakes (G2) this spring. A three-time stakes winner, the 3-year-old daughter of Mo Town is also a two-time OBS graduate, sold by K P Sales, Agent, at the 2021 October Sale then resold by Top Line Sales at the 2022 April Sale.  Trained by Brad Cox, she has compiled an 9-5-0-3 career record and earned $637,775.   Selected Yearling Sale walking video

H & E Ranch, Inc.’s Desert Dawn has won or placed in eight graded stakes, highlighted by a victory in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) at three.  Also trained by Phil D’Amato, the now 4-year-old daughter of Cupid sports a 15-2-3-5 career record and has earned $776,525. OBS again offers Online Bidding during the October Sale. Buyers will be able to go to the OBS website and register to gain bidding approval, then access the OBS Bidding Screen with their credentials. The online catalog’s main page contains a link to a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed.

The sortable master index has advanced search and filter capability and allows shortlist creation. A link to instructions for using these features can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.

The iPad version of the catalog can be accessed via the equineline Sales Catalog App. The App allows users to download and view the catalog, receive updates and results, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability.
