Bay Storm wins the Ladies Turf Stakes at Kentucky Downs

Bridlewood Farm’s Bay Storm (Kantharos – Stormy Regatta) set the pace in the $900,000 Ladies Turf Stakes (G2) on Saturday at Kentucky Downs, refused to yield when challenged, and best by a neck at the wire. It’s the fourth stakes victory for the 5-year-old daughter of Kantharos, trained by Jonathan Thomas, now 17-6-6-3 and the newest OBS millionaire with $1,313,315 in earnings. Bregman Family Racing LLC and WEBD, LLC’s No Nay Mets (IRE) (No Nay Never – Etoile) led from start to finish and won Saturday’s $125,000 Rosie’s Stakes by 3-1/4 lengths. That’s three stakes victories from four starts for the 2-year-old colt by No Nay Never, consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, to the 2023 OBS Spring Sale, where he went through the ring after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :20 4/5. Leon King Stable Corp.’s Bentornato (Valiant Minister – Her Special Way) is three for three with two stakes victories after a 7-1/2 length romp in Gulfstream’s $100,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Dr. Fager Stakes on Saturday.  OBS January ’22 graduates Dickens (Adios Charlie – Malibu Melody) and Jive (St Patrick’s Day – Skylarbdancing) were second and third. A two-time OBS graduate, Bentornato was sold by Stuart Morris at the October Yearling Sale then purchased for $170,000 out of the Golden Rock Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2023 March Sale. Cathy Rycroft, Kelly Rycroft, Dennis Dale, Tabitha Perry and Sheryl Benson’s Big Union (Union Rags – Cuttyhunk) came from off the pace, slipped through on the rail and was up in the final yards to take Saturday’s $50,000 S. W. Randall Plate Handicap at Hastings Racecourse by a head. It’s the second stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Union Rags, trained by Nicole Rycroft, who has compiled a 21-7-4-3 career record and earned $175,840.
