Packs a Wahlop scores in Del Mar’s Juvenile Turf Stakes

Red Baron’s Barn LLC and Rancho Temescal LLC’s Packs a Wahlop pressed the pace in the early going of Sunday’s $104,500 Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3) at Del Mar, took over a quarter mile from home and drew off to win by 4-1/4 lengths. Fellow OBS graduate Valiancer (June ’22) was moved up to second via disqualification. A Maiden Special winner in his last start, the 2-year-old colt by Creative Cause is now 3-2-0-0 for trainer Jeff Mullins and has earned $110,000. Consigned to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale by Envision Equine, Agent, he was sold for $270,000 after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Alpine Stable’s Luckman trailed early in Woodbine’s $127,050 Toronto Cup Stakes on Saturday, saved ground on the turn, swung out for the drive and was up in the shadow of the wire to win by a neck. It’s the fourth straight win and first stakes victory for the 3-year-old son of Empire Maker, purchased for $110,000 out of the Cary Frommer consignment at the 2021 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Speed Boat Beach made a big splash in his debut on Saturday at Del Mar, leading from gate to wire and winning an $82,500 Maiden Special test by a length and a quarter in a track record 1:01.86 for 5-1/2 furlongs. The 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Bayern, trained by Bob Baffert, earned $48,000.
