OBS grads take five stakes at Saratoga

OBS graduates posted five stakes wins on New York Showcase Day at Saratoga on Friday, missing  a sixth in a photo.

Gatsas Stables, R. A. Hill Stable and Swick Stable’s Funny Guy came from off the pace to take the lead in the $256,875 Albany Stakes after turning for home, opened daylight a furlong out and held off a late charge by fellow OBS graduate Bankit (March ’18) and scored by a head. It’s the second stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Big Brown, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 prior to his purchase for  $45,000 out of the Mayberry Farm consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale. Now 9-3-4-0 for trainer John Terranova, he has earned $389,645 to date. watch his under tack video

Beach Haven Thoroughbreds LLC’s unbeaten Newly Minted pressed the pace in the $207,900 Fleet Indian Stakes, took over on the turn and drew off from there, winning in hand by nine lengths. That’s three stakes wins for the 3-year-old daughter of Central Banker, trained by Linda Rice, now 5-4-0-1 with $346,350 in earnings. She was sold to Beach Haven for $110,000 at the 2018 OBS April Sale by Sequel Bloodstock, Agent for Chester and Mary Broman, after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. watch her under tack video

Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Peter Searles and Patty Searles’ City Man is two for two and a stakes winner after taking the $200,000 Funny Cide Stakes by 4-3/4 lengths over fellow OBS graduate Cleon Jones (March ’19) despite an erratic run down the stretch after taking the lead. Trained by Christophe Clement, the 2-year-old colt by Mucho Macho Man has earned $152,900 to date. He was sold to Reeves Thoroughbreds for $185,000 by Off the Hook LLC, Agent, at the 2019 April Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch his under tack video

Nice Guys Stables & Steve Hornstock’s Fierce Lady went after the leaders on the outside after turning for home in the $200,000 Seeking the Ante Stakes, put her head in front a furlong from home and held on gamely to score by a neck. Fellow OBS graduate My Italian Rabbi (January ’18) checked in third. It’s the first stakes victory for the 2-year-old filly by Competitive Edge, trained by Dermot Magner, now 3-2-1-0 with $164,100 in earnings. Consigned to the 2019 OBS March Sale by Mayberry Farm, Agent, she went through the ring after an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. watch her under tack video

Michael Dubb, Nantucket Thoroughbred Partners, Bethlehem Stables LLC et al’s Offering Plan came wide into the stretch of the $150,000 West Point Stakes, battled for the lead in deep stretch and was best by a neck at the wire. It’s the fifth stakes win for the 7-year-old graded stakes placed son of Spring At Last, sold for $135,000 at the 2014 OBS April Sale by Mayberry Farm, Agent, after working an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Trained by Chad Brown, he’s now 27-9-5-6 and has earned $863,973. watch his under tack video
