The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2019 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age begins Wednesday, June 5th and continues through Sunday, June 9th. All five sessions begin at 7:30 a.m.
Hip No.’s 1 – 216 will work Wednesday, Hip No.’s 217 – 432 will breeze on Thursday, Hip No.’s 433 – 648 go on Friday, Hip No.’s 649 – 864 will work on Saturday and Hip No.’s 865 – 1059 will breeze on Sunday. The final session includes the 45 two-year-olds in the supplemental catalog which can be viewed on the OBS website and via the equineline Sales Catalog iPad App. Printed supplemental catalogs are available at the sales grounds.
There are 1,041 two-year-olds and 17 older horses cataloged for the three-day sale, set for Wednesday, June 12th through Friday, June 14th, with all sessions beginning at 10:00 a.m.
As in 2018, the OBS June Sale will complete another successful juvenile sale season, which began with a strong March sale topped by a $2-million colt by Tapit and a $1.2-million son of Pioneerof the Nile. The April Sale shattered records in every statistical category, highlighted by a $1.3-million colt by Into Mischief, a $1.2-million son of Liam’s Map and a $1-million filly by Quality Road.
The sale results reflect the success at the racetrack enjoyed by OBS juvenile sales graduates who have produced 74 graded stakes wins since the beginning of 2018. During this time 150 OBS juvenile grads were first, second or third in 276 graded races, including 47 grade one stakes. In all, 401 OBS juvenile grads won or placed 865 times since the beginning of 2018, an average of over twelve a week.
The class of 2019 is off to a fast start. Eleven horses have already come out of the March Sale and found the winners’ circle, highlighted by Breeze Easy, LLC’s Karak, heading for Royal Ascot after beating the boys in a five furlong maiden special weight dash on the turf at Belmont on May 25. Trained by Wesley Ward, the 2-year-old daughter of Karakontie (JPN), the first winner for her sire, was sold for $365,000 by All Dreams Equine, Agent, after breezing an eighth in :9 4/5 at the Under Tack Show. watch her under tack video
The June Sale’s graduates continue to compete successfully at the racing’s highest levels. Since the beginning of 2018, 80 June grads won or placed 172 times in stakes races, headed by the exploits of Rockingham Ranch and David A. Bernsen LLC’s Stormy Liberal, back to back winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) and 2018’s Eclipse Award winner as champion turf male. The now 7-year-old son of Stormy Atlantic has amassed a 33-12-10-2 career record and earned over $2.1-million to date. Other June Sale graded stakes winners include Charles Fipke’s grade one winner Seeking the Soul, Peter Redekop‘s El Camino Real Derby winner Anothertwistafate, Thoroughbred Champions Training Center LLC’s Gladiator King and Hronis Racing LLC’s St. Joe Bay.
The Under Tack Show and Sale will be streamed live via the OBS website as well as the DRF, TDN and BloodHorse websites. The works will be available on DVD and on the OBS website, the Video Room and kiosks throughout the sales pavilion. In-room viewing is available at The Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton.
