Hollendorfer LLC, Pearl Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds’ Gunmetal Gray trailed in the early going of Saturday’s $100,702 Sham Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita, but circled horses on the turn to reach contention and then ran past the field in the final furlong to score by a length. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate, second in Santa Anita’s American Pharoah (G1) in September. Now 5-2-1-0 with earnings of $217,200 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, he was purchased for $225,000 out of the Brick City Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2018 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5.  watch his under tack video

It’s the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old colt by Jimmy Creed, purchased for $15,000 out of the Janie Roper consignment at the 2017 Winter Mixed Sale. Trained by Bill Mott, he’s now 5-2-0-0 and has earned $111,408 to date.
