Gabriel Charles, Dunkin Bend score graded stakes wins

Sam Britt and Michael House’s Gabriel Charles,  winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview Stakes last fall, scored his first graded stakes win Saturday in the $251, 250 Del Mar Derby (G2). Far back in the early going, the 3-year-old colt by Street Hero rallied on the outside, hit the front inside the final furlong and won by a length and a quarter. Sold for $160,000 by Price Thoroughbreds at the 2012 OBS April Sale, his second stakes win leaves him 7-3-2-0 with earnings of $289,800. watch his under tack video

Michael Langford’s Dunkin Bend stalked frontrunning fellow OBS graduate Yes I’m Lucky (April ’13) in the $96,000 Sapling Stakes (G3) at Monmouth on Saturday, then ran by him in deep stretch and won by a length and a quarter. Jumping straight from a maiden win into the Sapling, the 2-year-old colt by Dunkrik is now 3-2-1-0 and has earned $117,000. He was sold to Langford for $110,000 by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, at the 2013 OBS April Sale. watch his under tack video
