Since the beginning of 2012, OBS Spring Sale graduates have mounted a full scale assault on North American racetracks, scoring in 105 stakes races, including 34 graded stakes, and winning two division championships.

Dennis O’Neill plucked  I’ll Have Another out of the Eisaman Equine consignment for $35,000 on behalf of J. Paul Reddam on the 2011 Spring Sale’s second day. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the colt by Flower Alley followed a promising juvenile campaign with four straight graded stakes wins at three: The Robert B. Lewis (G2), Santa Anita Derby (G1), Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1). Although denied a chance at the Triple Crown, he was voted the Eclipse Award as 2012 champion 3-year-old male.

At the same session, Shivananda Parbhoo paid $21,000 for Trinniberg, a colt by Teuflesberg consigned by M & H Training and Sales, Agent. He too followed a promising 2-year-old campaign with four graded stakes wins at three, ending the year with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). He was voted the Eclipse Award as 2012’s champion male sprinter, a year after 2010 Spring Sale graduate Musical Romance was honored as champion female sprinter.

Graduates of last year’s Spring Sale have won 32 stakes races to date, headed by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram & Paul Weitman’s sale topper Executiveprivilege.  The daughter of First Samurai, with three graded stakes wins to her credit including the Del Mar Debutante (G1) and Chandelier Stakes (G1), was sold by Eddie Woods, Agent for $650,000.

The 2012 sale also produced Arnold Zetcher’s Del Mar Futurity (G1) winner Rolling Fog, sold for $62,000 by Classic Bloodstock (Danzel Brendemuehl), Agent, as well as Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Saratoga Special (G2) winner Spurious Precision, sold by de Meric Sales, Agent, for $105,000.

Most recently, Big Chief Racing LLC’s Ive Struck a Nerve won the Risen Star Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds. He brought $82,000 when purchased out of the Mayberry Farm consignment last April.
