Oxleys’ Stealcase was much the best in Sunday’s $154, 500 Ontario Derby (G3) at Woodbine, coming from well off the pace to take charge in deep stretch and pull away to a length and a quarter victory. It’s the first stakes score for the 3-year-old colt by Lawyer Ron, sold first by Carapan Farm, Agent, at the 2010 OBS August Sale before bringing $320,000 when purchased out of the Classic Bloodstock consignment at the 2011 OBS March Sale. West Point Thoroughbreds’ Tree of Life is two for two and a stakes winner after a three quarter length victory in the $100,495 Barretts Juvenile Stakes at Fairplex Park on Sunday. The 2-year-old Lion Heart colt was sold for $60,000 by Hunter Valley Farm at the 2011 OBS August Sale. He has earned $97,550 to date.
David J. Lanzman Racing Stable, Inc. and Jason Wood’s Bares Tripper took charge of Saturday’s $100,000 Barretts Debutante Stakes at Fairplex on the turn and drew off to an easy 6-1/4 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Miss Derek (August ’11) checking in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 2-year-old daughter of Sky Mesa, consigned by Wavertree Stables (Cairan Dunne), Agent, to the 2012 OBS April Sale. Signal Hill Farms’ Mucho Mas Macho led a 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $55,000 Needles Stakes on the turf, closing with a rush and getting up at the wire to beat Empire Builder (April ’11) by a neck, with Musical Flair (March ‘11) two lengths back in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Macho Uno, now 17-4-3-0 with earnings of $106,901. He was sold by Secure Investments for $19,000 at the 2011 OBS March Sale.
