Blinkers On Racing et al’s Turbulent Descent tracked the early leaders in Saratoga’s $250, 000 Test Stakes (G1) on Saturday, surged to the lead at the head of the stretch and then drew away to a 3-3/4 length victory, with fellow OBS graduate Pomeroys Pistol (August ’09) rallying to be second. It’s the third grade one win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Congrats, sold for $160,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2010 OBS April Sale. The win gives her an 8-6-2-0 record and earnings of $828,350.
Doubledown Stables Inc.’s Backdoor Kenny romped to a 5-1/4 length victory over fellow OBS graduate Next Right Thing (April ’11) in Saturday’s $85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes for his first stakes victory. The 2-year-old colt by Half Ours, now 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $74,140, was sold for $85,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale.
Robert Abbo Racing Stable LLC’s Immortal Eyes ran off his third straight stakes win Saturday, taking the $85,000 West Virginia Legislature Chairman’s Cup Handicap at Mountaineer Park by a nose. The 6-year-old Florida-bred gelding by Greatness, now 26-9-6-3 with earnings of $395,422, was first sold by Adena Springs South at the 2006 Winter Mixed Sale then resold by Beth Bayer, Agent, at the 2006 August Yearling Sale. He finally was sold for $220,000 by Eddie Woods, Agent, at the 2007 February Sale.
Patsy C. Symons’ Trix In The City scored her first stakes win on Saturday at Saratoga with a 2-1/4 length victory in the $80,000 De La Rose Stakes. That’s two wins in four starts this year for the 5-year-old mare by Friends Lake, sold for $300,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2008 OBS April Sale. The win gives her a 17-5-3-0 record and earnings of $167,598.
Carolyn Wilson’s Arena Elvira stepped into stakes company for the first time in Friday’s $77,000 Madame Jumel Stakes at Saratoga, and came back a winner by 1-1/4 lengths. That gives the 4-year-old Ghostzapper filly three wins in five starts this year, a 9-4-3-2 record and earnings of $169,930. She was sold by Straightaway Farm, Agent, for $210,000 at the 2009 OBS March Sale.
C.E. Glasscock & Vinery Stables’ Chipshot scored the first stakes win of his career on Saturday at Monmouth, taking the $75,000 Select Stakes by 2-3/4 lengths, with Royal Currier (Adena ’10) checking in third. It’s the second win in five starts this year for the 3-year-old Florida-bred Peace Rules colt, now 13-3-3-3 with $209,480 in earnings. He was sold for $$25,000 by The Acorn LLC, Agent, at the 2009 OBS August Sale, and his half brother by Circular Quay is consigned to the 2011 OBS August Sale.
Bluestone Thoroughbreds LLC’s Black Diamond Cat led 1 1-2-3 OBS sweep of Calder’s $55,000 Major Moran Stakes on Saturday, beating Peace at Dawn (April ’09, October 07) by 4-1/2 lengths , with Accredit (October ’05) checking in third. It’s the second straight stakes score for the 4-year-old Florida-bred colt by Wildcat Heir, sold first by Kaizen Sales, Agent, at the 2008 Winter Mixed Sale, then consigned by Marion Bloodstock, Agent, to the 2008 August Sale. The win gives him a 27-6-4-4 record and $187,684 in earnings.
Pinnacle Racing Stable & William A. Kaplan’s Musical Romance racked up her third stakes win of the year in Calder’s $54,000 Barb’s Dancer Stakes, scoring by half a length with fellow OBS graduate Indulgence (March ’09) running third. The 4-year-old Florida-bred filly by Concorde’s Tune was sold for $55,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale. She’s now 29-7-4-6 with $391,850 in earnings.
