Hip No. 261, a filly by War Front consigned by Alexandra de Meric and Brandon Rice, Agent, was sold to Buzz Chace, Agent for Jayeff B Stable for $275,000 to top the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2011 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The dark bay or brown filly, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Tappin for Gold, by Pleasant Tap.
Hip No. 102, a filly by Kafwain consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, went to Grace Stables LLC for $200,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Seattle Splash, by Chief Seattle, a daughter of stakes winner Grand Splash.
Woods also consigned Hip No. 197, a filly by Sunriver sold to Joe Ciaglia for $175,000. The chestnut filly, who also worked a quarter in :21 flat, is out of Starinthemeadow, by Meadowlake, a half sister to stakes winner Program Pick.
Hip No. 59, a colt by Trippi consigned by Ocala Stud, went to Hidden Brook, Agent, for $150,000. The bay colt, out of Roger’s Sue, by Forestry, and a half brother to multiple grade one winner Turbulent Descent, worked a quarter in :21 1/5 at the Under Tack Show.
Lane’s End Bloodstock went to $150,000 for Hip No. 111, a Sharp Humor colt consigned by James Layden, Sr., Agent. The chestnut colt, out of Senorita Spike, by El Gran Senor, and a half brother to graded stakes placed Tap Tap Tapping, worked an eighth in :10 1/5.
Hip No. 308, a colt by Lemon Drop Kid consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to Arc Bloodstock, Agent for Earle I. Mack, for $140,000. The dark bay or brown colt, out of stakes winner Touchnow, by Pleasant Tap, breezed an eighth in :10 2/5.
Hip No. 273, a Pure Prize filly consigned by The Team, Agent, was sold to Narvick International for $130,000. The chestnut filly, out of Terrible Twos, by Pine Bluff, a half sister to stakes placed Johnny Utah, worked a quarter in :21 flat.
Hip No. 92, a Hook and Ladder filly whose quarter in :20 3/5 was the fastest at the distance at Tuesday’s Under Tack session , was sold to Steve Shahinian, Agent for Harvey Clarke, for $120,000. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, the bay filly is out of Savasana, by Scatmandu.
For the day, 189 horses grossed $5,517,900 compared with 196 horses bringing a total of $4,579,100 at last year’s opening session. The average price was $29,195, up 25% from $23,363 last year, while the median price of $20,000 rose 11.1% compared to 2010’s $18,000. The buyback percentage was 30.8%; it was 25.7% a year ago.
Twenty-three horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with 22 at last year’s opening session.
