Reprized Halo, Delightful Mary head OBS Championship Stakes

Roger Urbina’s Reprized Halo and John C. Oxley’s Delightful Mary head their respective divisions of the $100, 000 OBS Championship Stakes as OBS holds its 22nd annual Day of Champions race card on Monday, March 14th.

The races, which will be run over OBS’ all-weather Safetrack surface, offer purses totaling $300,000 and will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com. Post time for the first race is 1:00 p.m.

It’s the third start of the year for Reprized Halo, whose juvenile campaign was highlighted by his front-running victory over fellow OBS graduate Gourmet Dinner in the In Reality Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes. He’ll be ridden by Jose Alvarez for trainer Manuel Azpurua.

John C. Oxley’s Strike Oil makes his second start of the year for trainer Mark Casse. The son of Forest Wildcat, winner of Woodbine’s Coronation Futurity last Novmeber, will be ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan.

Here are the horses and riders in post position order for the mile and a sixteenth race for 3-year-old colts and geldings who have gone through the ring at an OBS sale: WinStar Farm LLC’s Extended Family, no rider; Tracy Pinchin’s Andysun, Elvis Trujillo; M and H Stables’ Tapilu, Tracy Hebert; Robert Csepio’s Picaroo, Pedro Cotto, Jr.; Reprized Halo; Strike Oil; John C. Oxley’s Powerman, Rajiv Maragh; EMO Stable’s Pick Four, Luis Gonzalez. All will carry 122 pounds.

Delightfuil Mary heads a field of seven in the filly division of the OBS Championship Stakes. Third in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Churchill Downs and pointed for the Kentucky Oaks at the same track, she makes her first start of the year for trainer Mark Casse and will be ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan. Her main competition could come from stablemate Silent Moon, making her first start since ending her 2-year-old campaign with two straight wins at Woodbine. Rajiv Maragh has the riding assignment for trainer Casse.

The field for the mile and a sixteenth race for 3-year-old fillies who have gone through the ring at an OBS Sale: Luis Olivares’ Take Me to Zuber, Javier Santiago; Silent Moon; M and H Stable’s Wild Penny, Tracy Hebert; Paula C Racing Stable’s Bandola, Javier Castellano; A and V Investments, Inc.’s Snow Trial, Jose Alvarez; Armand A. Delaperriere’s Be My Candy, Daniel Coa; Delightful Mary. All will carry 120 pounds.

Doble Jak Investment LLC’s Cristal Jak, second to champion Awesome Feather in last summer’s Susan’s Girl Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes, heads a field of ten in the afternoon’s first race, the $50,000 OBS Sprint for 3-year-old fillies. The daughter of Drewman, trained by Antonio Sano, will be ridden by Luis Saez.

The horses and riders for the six furlong race for 3-year-old fillies who have gone through the ring at an OBS Sale: Armand A. Delaperriere’s Be My Candy, Daniel Coa; River Manor Stables’ Shan’s River, Angel Moreno; Edward A. Seltzer’s Prize Doll , Jeffrey Sanchez; Let’s Go Stable and Starlight Partners’ Holiday Flare, John Velazquez; Paula C Racing Stable’s Bandola, Javier Castellano; Bruce Lunsford’s Groundswell, Rajiv Maragh; M and H Stable’s Wild Penny, Tracy Hebert; Cristal Jak; Luis Olivares’ Take Me to Zuber, Javier Santiago; Curtis C. Green’s One Star, Elvis Trujillo. All will carry 120 pounds.

Rapputi Stables LLC, Dimitar Pencheff and Carlota Stable’s Ribo Bobo heads a field of eight in the $50,000 OBS Sprint for 3-year-old colts and geldings. The son of Louis Quatorze won last summer’s Foolish Pleasure Stakes at Calder and placed in two stakes including Churchill’s Iroquois Stakes (G3). Trained by Manuel Azpurua, he’ll be ridden by Ariel Smith.
